Robert Kushner is joined by friend and collaborator Ed Friedman, poet Ed Friedman, to discuss his current exhibition I Still ♥️ Matisse.
Ed Friedman is the author of eleven books of poetry, prose, and collaborations with visual artists. These include The Black Star Pilgrimage (Frontward Books), The New York Hat Line (with Robert Kushner and Katherine Landman, Bozeaux of London), Mao & Matisse (Hanging Loose Press), Away (with artwork by Robert Kushner, Granary Books), The Funeral Journal (Jensen/Daniels), Two Towns (Hanging Loose Press), and Ideal Boy (with artwork by Kim MacConnel, covers by Ann Agee, Helpful Book). For sixteen years, Friedman served as the Artistic Director of The Poetry Project at St. Mark’s Church.
Among the collaborations that Robert Kushner and Ed Friedman have done together are: Ed was the narrator in Robert's Masque of Monuments performance at Holly Solomon Gallery, 1972; the aforementioned New York Hat Line; Robert performed as a main character, Lingering Snow, in Ed’s Chinoiserie, at The Kitchen, 1977); Robert provided cover art and illustrations for Ed’s The Telephone Book, 1979); Robert provided the painted backdrop for Ed’s play, The White Snake, Eye and Ear Productions, NYC, 1982; the aforementioned Away, 1999.
