Duane Michals is considered an innovator in the field of photography for his appropriation of the cinematic effect of sequencing his images. The photographer's hand is evident in so much of his work, from the creation of sequences, to writing text on his prints, to more recent projects involving hand-painting on photographs and tintypes. Over the last 50 years, Michals's work has been celebrated, honored, collected, and exhibited internationally.
